FAQs
Common questions
What is hypnosis?
A focused, relaxed state where you can work on how you think and respond. You stay aware and in control throughout.
What isn't it?
It isn't mind control, and it isn't a treatment for depression, anxiety disorders or other medical conditions. No particular result can be promised.
What if I can't be hypnotised, or my mind is too analytical?
Hypnosis isn't about switching off your brain or losing control. In fact, an active, analytical mind is a real asset. If you can follow simple directions and focus your attention, you can experience hypnosis. We work together at your pace, and you stay alert, aware and in control throughout.
Who is hypnosis NOT suitable for?
For most people hypnosis is a gentle, relaxing and safe experience, but your safety comes first. In line with my professional training, I can't work with anyone who has a diagnosis of psychosis, schizophrenia, a pathological personality disorder, or severe cognitive impairment or advanced dementia. You also can't be under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs during a session. If you're unsure whether hypnotherapy suits your situation, we can talk it through in your free 15-minute chat.
Do I need approval from my doctor before booking?
If you have a diagnosed medical or neurological condition, I'll need confirmation from your GP before we begin. This includes epilepsy or narcolepsy, heart conditions, clinical depression or bipolar disorder, and being in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Hypnosis should never mask undiagnosed physical symptoms, such as persistent pain, ongoing headaches or breathing difficulties. A doctor should always check these first.
What if I'm in crisis or severe distress?
Hypnosis is not crisis care. If you're struggling with severe depression, thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please get help now: call NHS 111 (or 999 in an emergency) or contact your GP; Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7); CALM on 0800 58 58 58 (5pm to midnight); or Breathing Space (Scotland) on 0800 83 85 87.
What is a session like?
We talk through your goal, then move into hypnosis, then finish with something practical you can use before your next performance.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you want to achieve. For lasting change, clients choose the four-week programme or the six-week PRIME Protocol. We'll work out the best route during your free 15-minute chat.
Do you work online?
Yes. Sessions are available online and in person in Fife.
How does payment work?
Packages are paid before they start. Get in touch and I'll explain the details for your chosen package.
If you are struggling right now
Hypnosis is not a treatment for depression or other medical conditions. Please speak to your GP, call NHS 111, or call Samaritans free on 116 123, any time, day or night.
